And yet...
It seems that someone involved in my state’s personal property tax system decided to alter my Exocet’s Colorado state-issued VIN to follow normal manufacturer-issued VIN patterns... which it doesn’t. Time to go have some fun finding the right person to inform that some VINs really, truly, actually start with “IDCO” and not “1DC0".
In better, yet still only mildly interesting news: I should soon have some plexi triangles to better fill out the Exocet’s sides like those pictured below. I’m looking forward to the reduced rock, water, and wind intrusion.

I would have just expected it to keep the donor car VIN?

Typically the Miata VIN stays with the body and the state will issue a new one for the Exocet kit (which comes with it
s own Certificate of Origin from Exomotive). The “rollerskate” used from the donor (see below) gets checked to make sure it’s VIN-stamped parts weren’t stolen, but that’s about the extent of it.
This arrangement has its benefits, often in the form of the kit being more easily titled as a replica of an older vehicle or other specially assembled vehicle with more relaxed regulations. Conversely, keeping the kit legal as the Miata it was tends to be a lot more difficult.

Sounds like someone needs a refresher on their I D10T training...

Good to know that I’m not the only one who regularly gets stupid from their state. I had the state revoke my registration while they argued internally about something that was resolved in the time that it took to send me the letter. I showed up to the DMV and they just said “nah, you’re good. We just had a little fight internally ”.
I’ve been thinking about doing this “triangle” mod as well. I don’t quite understand how they clamp and the one issue I have is that I like seeing the front wheel from the driver’s seat. I think it kind of adds to the experience. I do need to figure out how to decrease the amount of exhaust coming into the cabin first though. Since I put on the new windshield, the backdraft from the exhaust is horrible.

I’m kinda curious about the mounting hardware as well, mostly just hoping for the best and willing to come up with my own solution if they don’t work out. I got them from Russ’s listing on the FB group and can throw up some pics here once I get them and do the install.
Also bummer on the backdraft effect on your new windshield. Did you get much with your previous iteration? I’m kinda curious since even with my minimal one I’ll start smelling like exhaust after some longer drives depending on speed.

Previous iteration was almost 0 but it had a 4 inch gap on the bottom and I was getting a stiff breeze to the chin straight from the hood. This one deflects wind up over front roll bar on the race chassis. It significantly improved gas mileage and aero at 60+mph. After even a short drive, my clothes now smell like exhaust when I get out. That can’t be good for my health. Haha.

Oh, and definitely post up the install process. I’m quite curious. I may consider doing it with clear AR lexan.
